About
I started my journey in the mental health field as a per diem staff member at a residential program for adolescent girls struggling with mental health concerns. Over the years I have worked hard to obtain Masters degrees in community psychology and additional graduate level coursework in clinical mental health counseling. I have a unique background with first hand experience on the prevention and community programming side of the treatment continuum over to direct clinical experience of the person to person work for many years.
My journey has allowed me the opportunity to work with clients ranging in age from Pre-K to older adults in individual and group settings and in community and private capacities. I have supervisory experience in program development, outpatient treatment and residential treatment levels of care.
My clinical approach combines psychodyamic based interventions with over evidence based therapies including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), solutions focused therapy (SFT), motivational interviewing, narrative therapy based approaches and EMDR. Each client has unique needs and goals when entering therapy which is why I use a combination of therapeutic approaches depending on the given client. I feel that multiple approaches can be interwoven over time to achieve the best possible outcome. My experience has allowed me to specialize in a range of mood disorders, acute and complex trauma, as well active addiction/substance use and recovery maintenance.
Part of what continues my passion for this field is any opportunity to teach, which is why I offer supervision in addition to my clinical services. My approach can be especially beneficial to clinicians who find themselves newly working with clientele struggling with substance use disorders, complex trauma, or co-occurring disorders including personality disorders or traits.
